Fewer students enrolled in Jefferson County's only school district in 2022-23 school year

The only school district in Jefferson County faced declining enrollment in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

There were 1,926 students in the halls of Jefferson County School District, 4.9% less than the year before.

Enrollment in Jefferson County was steady compared to the state's trend of decreasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 52% of them were male, and 48% were female.

Data also showed that most of the students were Black, representing 70% of the Jefferson County School District's total enrollment.

Jefferson County School District has a main office in Louisville and is the only school district within Jefferson County.

According to the Georgia Department of Education, over 1.6 million students were enrolled in Georgia's public schools during the 2021-22 school year. The state boasted a diverse and closely distributed student body across grade levels, with roughly 44% of the students in elementary, 24.5% in middle school, and 31.5% in high schools.

The state also registered an ethnically diverse student body, with 34.4% of the students identified as white, 36.5% as Black, 17.1% as Hispanic, and 4.5% as Asian.
