2022-23 School Year: How many students were enrolled in Wilkes County schools?

There were 1,187 students enrolled in Wilkes County schools in the 2022-23 school year, 4.4% less than the previous year, according to reports from the Georgia Department of Education.

Boys made up 51.7% of the county's student body, while the other 48.3% were girls.

Data also showed that African American students made up 48.5% of the student body, the largest percentage in Wilkes County schools, followed by white students with 34.5%, 9.1% Hispanic students, 6.2% multiracial students, 0.9% Asian students and 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native students.

Washington-Wilkes Primary School stood out with the highest enrollment among Wilkes County's four schools in the 2022-23 cycle, welcoming 347 students.

As of 2024, Georgia has an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 15:1, which is better than the national average of 1:16. The state has its best student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1 in pre-kindergarten and middle school grades, while high school has an average ratio of 17:1.
