Augusta Prep STEM teacher nominated for prestigious award

Upper/Middle School Technology Teacher Mary White received a nomination for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching on Monday, August 29.

The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST)* are the highest recognition that a kindergarten through 12th grade science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics teacher (STEM) may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States. Up to 108 teachers are recognized each year.

Mary has been active in Augusta Prep's STEM offerings. She started the highly successful Girls Go CyberStart team at Augusta Prep. Mary also oversees robotics, coding and assorted engineering projects in and around campus.

Later in the school year, Presidential Awardees will receive a certificate signed by the President of the United States, along with a trip to Washington D.C., to attend a series of recognition events, and a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation.

Awardees also join an active network of outstanding educators from across the nation. Since 1983, more than 5,200 teachers have been recognized for their contributions in the classroom and to their profession. Awardees serve as models to their colleagues, inspiration to their communities, and leaders in the improvement of STEM education.
