Savannah - Chatham County Public School System issued the following announcement on June 21.
Students at the Isle of Hope School were among the first to receive brand new books courtesy of WTOC and the Books To Kids initiative, sponsored by Ken Nugent Law Firms. Over the last two months, WTOC has been collecting books at various locations throughout the county to distribute to K-3rd grade students of SCCPSS. The final tally was nearly 7,000 books! The distribution began June 21 and will continue through June 29. Each student will recieve a backpack with three or four books. The new and gently used books were donated by the community to support the Books To Kids program. "Children who have books of their own may discover a love of reading that will take them anywhere their imagination can go," said Dr. Ann Levett, Superintendent of Schools. "We appreciate the work of WTOC and Ken Nugent to assist us in achieving our goals for reading and comprehension, and the generosity of our community!"
