In the 2024-25 school year, 1,002 white students attended Lakeside High School—a 3.4% decrease compared with the prior year, data from the Georgia Department of Education showed.
Lakeside High School’s total enrollment reached 1,822 students for 2024-25. White students remained the largest group at the school, making up 55% of the student population.
The campus is part of Columbia County Public Schools, which is headquartered in Evans.
Within Columbia County Public Schools’ 30 campuses, Greenbrier High School saw the highest white student enrollment in 2024-25, enrolling 1,253 white students.
Georgia’s public schools enrolled more than 1.7 million students overall, per the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report. Elementary grades made up the largest share at 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by 388,733 in middle school (22.7%), and 539,092 in high school (31.4%).
Chronic absenteeism has continued to be a significant concern in Georgia schools since the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. In reply, the department introduced a statewide campaign featuring a real-time attendance dashboard, public awareness efforts, and specific support for high-need districts to improve daily attendance rates.
Georgia legislators in 2025 approved changes to school attendance laws prohibiting expulsion solely due to absenteeism. The update also implements additional reporting obligations and harmonizes with programs that support students in earning diplomas through alternative means.
Data as of 2026 shows Georgia averaged a student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 14:1, which surpasses the national average of 15:1.
