Wellstar Health System held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Apr. 13 to mark the opening of its new cancer care facility in Cartersville, Georgia. The center began serving patients on Feb. 23 and is designed to expand oncology services for Bartow County residents.

The new facility nearly doubles the local infusion capacity and offers more space for chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and other medical oncology services. The building features 15 exam rooms, three triage rooms, 28 infusion chairs, eight blood draw stations, a dedicated laboratory, an on-site compounding pharmacy, and larger areas for clinical consultations and care coordination.

“This new facility is part of our commitment to expanding access to compassionate, high-quality care across the Southeast,” said Ketul J. Patel, president and CEO of Wellstar Health System. “For the people who call Bartow County home, that commitment means advanced cancer treatment where they live, delivered by a team supporting them every step of the way.” Patel said that the partnership with Northwest Georgia Oncology Centers will enable access to advanced therapies while strengthening collaboration among healthcare professionals.

Dr. Michelle Ojemuyiwa, a Wellstar oncologist and hematologist practicing in Cartersville said: “This space was designed with our patients’ needs in mind. With more room, additional infusion chairs and an on-site compounding pharmacy, we can care for more patients efficiently while maintaining the personalized, attentive approach they expect throughout their treatment.” The team at this location includes two medical oncologists and four advanced practice providers delivering tailored treatment plans as well as supportive services such as genetic counseling and financial navigation.

Wellstar Health System invests millions annually in charity care and community benefit programs according to the official website. The system operates more than 400 locations across north and west Georgia according to its official website, providing specialized services including cancer care along with heart and vascular medicine; neurology; orthopedics; women’s health; pediatrics; all supported by Magnet designation for nursing excellence at multiple facilities according to Wellstar.

Candice Saunders serves as president and chief executive officer of Wellstar Health System according to its official website. The organization states it aims to improve health outcomes for those it serves through ongoing investments in infrastructure like this new Cartersville center.
