The House of Representatives has passed H.R. 27, known as the HALT Fentanyl Act, aiming to address the issue of fentanyl trafficking across the southern border. The bill seeks to make permanent the temporary class-wide scheduling order for fentanyl-related substances and equip law enforcement with necessary tools to combat these drugs.

The Trump Administration has expressed its support for this legislative measure through a Statement of Administration Policy.

Congressman Rick W. Allen from Georgia's 12th district spoke in favor of the bill on the House floor. He emphasized the need for action against fentanyl trafficking, criticizing previous efforts under the Biden Administration: "During the four years of the Biden Administration, our border was wide open, allowing the cartels and drug traffickers to transport fentanyl and fentanyl-related substances into our country."

Allen highlighted that illicit fentanyl poisonings are now a leading cause of death among adults aged 18-49. He stressed that under Republican leadership, there would be efforts to end this crisis: "This is more than just a statistic, and under the Republican-controlled House, Senate, and White House, this crisis will come to an end."

He concluded by urging colleagues to support the bill, noting that it would enhance community safety alongside President Trump's border security measures: "This legislation...will make our communities safer and save lives."
