The City of Augusta has announced the naming of a building in honor of Tom Wiedmeier, the former Utilities Director. The Augusta Utilities, Augusta Engineering, and NRCS Administration Building will now bear his name to recognize his contributions to the community's water services. The ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., located at 452 Walker Street.
Wiedmeier led Augusta Utilities from November 2009 until his passing in August 2020. During his tenure, he initiated projects that enhanced service delivery and water quality for both residents and businesses. "Tom Wiedmeier’s legacy is one of dedication, innovation, and a profound commitment to serving all residents of Augusta – Richmond County. It is only fitting that this building, which continues to be at the heart of our water operations, bears his name," said Wes Byne, Director of Utilities.
The event will feature speeches from community leaders, colleagues, and family members along with an unveiling of the new signage on the building.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony to honor Wiedmeier's life and contributions that significantly impacted Augusta's water infrastructure.
