The City of Augusta was recognized at the annual State of Tourism event, hosted by Destination Augusta, for its response during Hurricane Helene. The city received the "Spirit of Community" award for its ongoing relief and recovery efforts. This recognition highlights the city's resilience and commitment to community unity.

City Administrator Tameka Allen and Mayor's Chief of Staff Jasmine Sims accepted the award on behalf of the city from Destination Augusta Executive Director Bennish Brown. Mrs. Allen expressed gratitude towards first responders, volunteers, and city employees for their dedication during the storm. "This recognition reflects the spirit of unity and compassion that defines Augusta. In times of crisis, our community steps up," Allen stated.

The event also celebrated several milestones achieved over the past year. These included the fifth anniversary of Augusta & Co, $854 million generated in visitor spending, the opening of a newly renovated Bell Auditorium, groundbreaking for a new James Brown Arena, an upcoming Urban Outdoor Adventure Center, and a $27.6 million economic impact in sports tourism with 11,950 athletes visiting through Augusta Sports Council.
