The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) advanced H.R. 8812, the bipartisan Water Resources Development Act of 2024 (WRDA), yesterday. This biannual bill addresses water issues and projects in the United States. The legislation included language to halt the Corps of Engineers' rock weir plan and clarify Congressional intent to maintain a pool level at 114.5 feet.

Following the Committee's passage, Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) issued a statement: "I have worked for many years in Congress on this issue, and I was proud to partner with fellow Georgian and member of the T&I Committee, Representative Mike Collins, to include language in this year's Water Resources Development Act to halt the Corps of Engineers' disastrous rock weir plan dead in its tracks and clarify Congressional intent to maintain our pool level at 114.5 feet. The committee’s passage of H.R. 8812 is a monumental first step toward a permanent solution that works for job creators, municipalities, and most importantly, residents of the CSRA. I look forward to seeing this legislation considered on the House floor in short order."

Earlier this year, Congressman Allen testified during the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's Member Day Hearing, advocating for legislative language regarding the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam to be included in WRDA 2024.
