The community of Augusta has exciting events to look forward to this month as ceremonial groundbreaking ceremonies are set to take place. The Augusta Fire Department will kick off the celebrations with a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Fire Station 3 on April 24, 2024, at 2075 Powell Rd. The event, scheduled for 9 am, marks the commencement of the construction process for a state-of-the-art facility aimed at enhancing emergency response capabilities and public safety infrastructure.

According to the announcement, "The public is invited to celebrate this significant milestone." The ceremony will feature insights from city and fire department leaders, providing attendees with a closer look at the project's community benefits.

Following this, on April 25, 2024, at 11 am, another groundbreaking ceremony will take place for The Lenox at 1016 Laney Walker Blvd, Augusta. The Lenox, a project being co-developed by Woda Cooper Companies, Inc. and Parallel Housing, Inc., aims to address Augusta’s need for more affordable housing for various groups, including workforce families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. The development will also positively transform a vacant property in downtown Augusta.

Highlighting the historical significance of the area, it was mentioned that "The neighborhood where The Lenox is being built has had a significant impact in Augusta’s Black history. The property is named after the former Lenox Theater, a beloved 1921 historic venue that was damaged by fire and eventually torn down in the late 1970s."
