ATLANTA (March 25, 2024) – Democratic Caucus Whip Sen. Harold Jones II (D–Augusta) has expressed his concerns regarding the recommended school closures in Augusta, Georgia, which include his former high school, Glenn Hills High School.
In response to the news, Sen. Jones stated, “Both the community and Augusta-Richmond County School Board face difficult choices about school closings. While I hope that no more Richmond County schools will be forced to close, as an alumnus of Glenn Hills, I must highlight the contributions that Glenn Hills graduates have made to our community.”
Highlighting the accomplishments of Glenn Hills graduates, Sen. Jones mentioned, “Glenn Hills has produced numerous distinguished graduates, including Judge David Watkins, Judge Kelli McIntyre, the late Edward Tarver, and current State Rep. Brian Prince (D–Augusta).”
Expressing his desire to explore alternative options to preserve the schools, Sen. Jones emphasized, “Glenn Hills and all schools on the recommended closure list have been instrumental to the growth and development of our county. It is my sincere desire that we can explore other options and preserve these schools, as each one contributes a unique and rich history to our city.”
