Yesterday, Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) and Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Energy, Climate, and Grid Security, Congressman Jeff Duncan (SC-03), visited Plant Vogtle in Waynesboro, Georgia to take a firsthand look at Vogtle Units 3 and 4, which will be the first new nuclear reactors to come online in the United States in over three decades. Unit 3 is expected to come online this summer, and Unit 4 is expected to come online at the beginning of next year.

Here in Georgia’s 12th District, we are the tip of the spear in the push for clean, reliable nuclear power. Our country needs a comprehensive, all-of-the-above approach to lowering energy costs for American families, and I am proud the 12th District is playing such a pivotal role in unleashing our nuclear energy capabilities. I’d like to thank Chairman Jeff Duncan for joining me during yesterday’s visit and I look forward to our continued work together on the Energy and Commerce Committee to advance nuclear energy legislation,” said Congressman Allen.
“Thanks to Congressman Rick Allen for inviting me to Plant Vogtle in Augusta to see the first new nuclear units built in the United States in over thirty years. Nuclear energy production will play an integral role in our nation’s energy future because of its ability to provide affordable, abundant, carbon-free baseload power to Americans safely and reliably. The Energy and Commerce Committee will continue to advocate for nuclear energy expansion in the United States by identifying regulatory hurdles that impair nuclear innovation and development. I’m thankful for Rick Allen’s leadership on the committee and his work to ensure that the people and industries in Georgia are well-represented in Congress,” said Congressman Duncan.
