TOOTHACHE? What is happening?

Dentist

Anyone who has had a toothache knows it’s not something to be taken lightly. A toothache can be of varying intensities and causes. It can cause a sharp or dull pain that is constant or that comes and goes. This pain can be triggered by chewing or eating something sweet, cold, or hot. There are many causes of a toothache, the most common of which is decay or a cavity. Cavities that are smaller can cause sensitivity, but larger ones can cause enough pain to wake you up at night. Your dentist can remove the cavity and place a filling, which often alleviates the pain.

It is vital to see a dentist as soon as possible to prevent your condition from worsening. Immediate care needs to be rendered if you have trouble breathing or swallowing or show any signs of infection, such as swelling, fever, or pus. If a tooth abscess forms, there’s a possibility that the infection can spread.

Preventing a toothache all begins with getting regular dental exams and cleanings. These exams can help diagnose many of the causes of a toothache before symptoms become severe. Be diligent with your oral hygiene and do not forget to floss daily, preferably before brushing. Brush twice daily, especially after eating. If you’re not sure how to brush or floss properly, stop by your nearest dental clinic and we would love to show you. Try limiting a cavity prone diet, such as those high in sugars. Decreasing the frequency of sugar intake is more important for your teeth than the amount.

It is critical to continue to get an annual exam, so problems can be discovered at an early stage and not worsen, leading to fillings, a root canal, or even extraction of your teeth. Ensure that your family members also get an annual exam and cleaning. Toothaches can cause some serious pain, but if you do your due diligence, most cases can be prevented.
