Sprinkler systems
Residents and businesses should be mindful of using outdoor running water systems, such as sprinkler systems on timers, from the evening of Friday, December 23, 2022, through Sunday, December 25, 2022. During this cold snap, running water overnight might freeze, creating a slipping hazard on walkways and traction issues on roadways.
Winter safety tips
With the drop in temperatures, residents are also encouraged to bring pets indoors, dress in warm clothing, protect sensitive plants, protect piping, and check on elderly neighbors and family.
Lastly, the Augusta Fire Department is reminding the public to be mindful of seasonal fire hazards, including the increased use of candles and holiday decorations and placing mobile heating units too close to flammable items. All of these situations can contribute to dangerous fire events.
