We’d like to shine our Employee Spotlight on one of our two Employees of the Month, Mrs. Leigh Lackey of Code Enforcement!

This week, we’d like to shine our Employee Spotlight on one of our two Employees of the Month, Mrs. Leigh Lackey of Code Enforcement!

Born in Augusta, Georgia, Leigh was raised in the nearby city of Thomson. She attended and graduated from Thomson High School and immediately began working in various fields. After having worked many different jobs around the area, Leigh landed at McCorkle Nurseries in Dearing, Georgia, a wholesale company producing and distributing thousands of plants to retailers everywhere. There, she performed administrative duties for the company, and stayed on with the business for 10 years. Afterwards, Leigh worked for a school photography company, running the office, and assisting with photography at schools across the area.

In 2010, Leigh started with the City of Grovetown at Planning and Zoning (now Planning and Community Development) as the Administrative Assistant. She then moved over to our Utilities Department at City Hall in 2016 as their Administrative Assistant and was eventually promoted to Utility Billing Supervisor. Mrs. Lackey later moved over to Utility Billing Coordinator, but ultimately found her role as a Code Enforcement Officer at Planning & Community Development. As you can see, Leigh went on quite a journey within the ranks of our City and has worn many hats for Grovetown over the years!

Admittedly, Leigh enjoys her current role the most, saying she enjoys working with the community and educating them on what the local ordinances are. “We’re here to help inform you and educate you on the correct way things are supposed to go,” Leigh said, “and to help Grovetown look better!” It definitely seems she’s more than good at it, that’s for sure!

In her spare time, Leigh enjoys gardening, fishing, and hanging out with friends. She also enjoys spending time with family, including her husband of 19 years, 2 children, and 2 dogs. We appreciate Leigh and all the work she has done for Grovetown over the years. Keep up the good work, and thanks for keeping our City looking clean and beautiful!
