Savannah-Chatham County Public School System issued the following announcement on Feb. 1.
Dr. Mark Linsky, SCCPSS Instructional Specialist for World Languages, has been selected as one of three national directors for the next cohort for the Leadership Institute for Language Learning through the American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Language.
The Leadership Initiative for Language Learning (LILL) was established in 2015 to provide an organized space for foster future leaders in the field, to achieve a growth mindset focused on effective teaching and learning, and purposeful nurturing of leadership skills, all in the service of learners. It has evolved into a two-year program with participation in two LILL Summer Institutes plus collegial support and sessions during the intervening academic year. LILL provides a transformative space for developing agency, leadership, and autonomy during and after participation in the program.
“We work together with LILL directors and past participants over the course of two summers. During the first cohort, we learn about becoming leaders and develop an idea about improving our profession. Then with feedback from leaders and peers, we develop a plan for the coming two years," Dr. Linsky explained. “The next year, we revise our plans as needed and mentor the new cohort. Now, I have been invited to serve as a leader/facilitator for the next cohort. I will 'shadow' the current leaders in 2022 and then work with the new cohort in 2023-24."
LILL emerging leaders are nominated and sponsored by national, state, and regional organizations and they become part of a cohort for 2 summers. Dr. Linsky was selected by the Southern Conference on Language Teaching (SCOLT) board to serve as a leader/facilitator for the upcoming Cohort. SCOLT funds all travel and registration fees.
“We're extremely proud of Dr. Linsky's appointment to this national position. Dr. Linsky demonstrates his commitment to the field of World Languages and to the staff and students SCCPSS time and time again," said Andrea Burkiett, director of Curriculum and Instruction.
