SAVANNAH CHATHAM COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM: A Message from Your Superintendent: Second Semester Operations

Announcement1

Savannah Chatham County Public School System issued the following announcement on Dec. 30.

SCCPSS Families,

I hope that you are enjoying a safe and restful winter break. The New Year is only hours away.

A lot has changed since we dismissed for the break on December 17 with the omicron variant of Coronavirus spreading rapidly and the number of positive cases increasing.  Over the first semester, several prevention and mitigation measures allowed us to deliver in-person instruction safely, including but not limited to, masking, social distancing when possible, testing, and vaccinations.  The SCCPSS community demonstrated its ability to be flexible and adaptable as conditions evolved. We also demonstrated our commitment to living and working as safely as possible under pandemic conditions. We will continue to implement measures that protect the wellbeing of our community and allow us to meet our goal of safely educating our students.

As we look to the start of the second semester, we continue to prioritize safe in-person learning experiences. Thus, we look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.  We will continue to monitor the public health conditions and adapt accordingly to maintain safe conditions for all. We are preparing, as much as possible, for the effects of the current public health conditions on our operations. If there are situations that require adjustments that may impact family routines, we will notify you as soon as possible through all available communication channels. We encourage you to develop emergency plans for such situations. To ensure we are able to reach you immediately, please make sure school officials have accurate contact information for your family.

It appears that COVID-19 will be a part of our lives for the near future. It has caused us many hardships but we have successfully adapted and persevered. We now have effective vaccines and booster shots as well as tested pharmaceutical and medical treatments for those who contract the virus. We know so much more about how to protect ourselves than we did 20+ months ago.

Please stay safe and well as you enjoy the remaining days of the break. Seek testing and treatment if you and/or your children are not feeling well or have been exposed to someone who is positive. Wear a mask, keep your hands clean, and maintain your distance. Check www.sccpss.com for any updates.

I look forward to safe return of students on January 4, 2022.

Happy New Year!

M. Ann Levett, Ed.D.
