City of Augusta issued the following announcement on Nov. 5.
The Augusta 911 Center has received national recognition for the staff's use of technological advancements and essential training. Due to Covid-19, the awards were not distributed until this year.
The Center received the 2020 Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) Public Safety Communications Technology Leadership-Small Agency Award for their use of technological advancements to benefit their center, employees, and citizens. The Augusta 911 Center has implemented several technology projects, including a platform to locate emergency 911 callers better and enter calls for faster service.
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children 911 Center also recognized the Augusta 911 Center for meeting essential training and policy elements demonstrating preparedness for responding to missing child incidents. The Missing Kids Readiness Program (MKRP) promotes best practices for responding to calls of missing, abducted, and sexually exploited children. The Augusta 911 Center is one of 12 emergency communications centers in Georgia actively participating in the program.
