Columbia County issued the following announcement on Oct. 15.
From Georgia DOT - East
Official opening of Gate 6 is Oct. 25.
Gordon HWY lanes opening Monday
E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc.. will open all four lanes of newly reconstructed highway by Monday afternoon.
The new Gate 6 traffic signals will enter flash mode Oct. 18 and full stop-and-go operations Oct. 21.
Gate 6 will open fully Monday, Oct. 25. The new gate will have a “soft opening” the two days prior for ID card holders.
On Saturday, Oct. 23, contractors will alter the old Gate 2 intersection signals to meet the new traffic pattern using Gate 6 as the main base entrance.
Beginning Monday, Oct. 25, drivers must use Gate 6 as the primary Fort entrance. This change means the public can’t drive straight across from Robinson Avenue.
If you are on Robinson Avenue entering the four-lane, there will be two right-turns and one left-turn option.
Gate 2 will be closed and only opened for emergency use in the future. Gate 3 is also closing down once the new gate is fully functional next week.
