Columbia County issued the following announcement on Sept. 30.
Columbia County Fire Rescue has partnered with the Georgia Department of Public Health to host a car seat check event on Saturday, October 23, 2021. This event, which is free and open to the public, will be from 10 AM until 12 PM at the Evans Walmart (4469 Washington Road, Evans GA).
Columbia County Fire Rescue has trained technicians that will be on site to teach individuals about car seat safety and installation. Through the Child Passenger Safety Program, Fire Rescue’s trained technicians put their knowledge to work through a variety of activities, including child seat safety checks where parents and caregivers receive education and hands-on assistance with the proper use of child restraint systems and safety belts.
Statistics show that 74% to 90% of child safety seats are installed incorrectly which equates to three out of four car seats.
