City of Grovetown issued the following announcement on Sept. 16.
Good morning. Grovetown Department of Public Safety Fire Division crews are flushing and testing fire hydrants through November 2021.
This is very important to the maintenance of the city’s water distribution system.
Fire hydrant testing improves water quality in the distribution system, verifies the proper operation of fire hydrants and valves, helps find weaknesses in the water system, checks for closed valves and weak flows in the water mains, and verifies adequate fire flows for firefighting.
Today, fire crews will be testing in the area of Old Wrightsboro Rd., Lottie Ln., Wadsworth Ct., Charlotte Ave., 100-300 Blk. W. Robinson, 200-400 E. Robinson Ave.
It is not uncommon for a yellow, brown, or reddish tint to appear in the water.
Harmless mineral deposits settle in the water mains and flushing and testing the system stirs the deposits, causing the discoloration.
