Augusta University Medical Center issued the following announcement on Aug. 17.
It’s a milestone year for Credit Unions for Kids as the program celebrates its 25th year of fundraising for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Since 1996, thousands of credit unions across the country have come together under the banner of Credit Unions for Kids to raise more than $150 million for CMN Hospitals.
Right here in Augusta, the Health Center Credit Union (HCCU) and team members take great pride in being a Credit Unions for Kids partner and fundraising for our CMN Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Georgia. HCCU has been a proud partner since Children’s opened in 1998.
“If you don’t support your neighbors and their children, who do you support?” asked Jennifer Leisey, HCCU marketing and program support coordinator. “Our first fundraiser was selling CMN /Credit Unions for Kids T-shirts with the Augusta Credit Union Chapter, and all proceeds benefited the Children’s Hospital.”
One hundred percent of every dollar donated by members of HCCU goes back to benefit the patients at Children’s. Over the past two decades, HCCU has fundraised through change drives, Miracle Jeans Day and raffle tickets. The group has sponsored dozens of events, volunteered at Radiothon and matched donations.
Leisey said the drive to fundraise has grown over the years and employees truly understand the work being done at Children’s. “We are Children’s Hospital patients and family members, so it’s very personal, and something we’re passionate about,” said Leisey.
HCCU employees and members put their money where their hearts are by consistently engaging the community to support the Children’s Hospital in new ways!
Why Give?
“I encourage everyone to think about your family, coworkers and friends and how Children’s has been there for them. At HCCU we have babies we have been able to watch grow and flourish in amazement of what they had to overcome. Makes your heart full! – Lisa Mahaffey, HCCU Senior Vice President
“I’m able to pay it forward for what Children’s did for my family.” – Sonia McMichael, HCCU Loan Consultant
“Because it is the right thing to do, supporting the Children’s Hospital saves kids lives.” – Stacy Tallent, HCCU President and CEO
“Knowing the little things we’re able to do, combined with others, are able to make such a huge impact on individual families and kids in our community.” – Jennifer Leisey, HCCU Marketing and Program Support Coordinator
Affinity Card Program
The HCCU Affinity Card Program kicked-off in 2018 and offers two card designs benefiting the Children’s Hospital of Georgia; one featuring the Children’s Hospital building its self, and the other featuring Roary, the Children’s Hospital of Georgia mascot. Members selecting these card images get to show their support for Children’s every time they use their card, and HCCU donates a portion of our interchange income for every swipe. Since the program’s inception, HCCU has been able to increase member participation every year and donate over $14,000 to the Children’s Hospital.
