COLUMBIA COUNTY: 9/11 Day of Remembrance Ceremony

911

Columbia County issued the following announcement on Aug. 13.

The Columbia County Board of Commissioners along with the Columbia County Ballet cordially invites you to attend the 9/11 Day of Remembrance ceremony. The event, which is free to the public, will take place on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the Memorial Gardens Amphitheater (7022 Evans Town Center Boulevard, Evans GA). The Columbia County Ballet will present the premiere of FREEDOM with the ceremony scheduled to begin at 6:45 pm and performance immediately following.

“We are excited to partner with the Columbia County Ballet for this year’s 9/11 event”, said Chairman Doug Duncan. “With it being the 20th Anniversary, we wanted to offer something different than years past. When the Columbia County Ballet approached us about using the Memorial Gardens Amphitheater for a 9/11 performance, we saw this as the perfect opportunity to honor and remember those who lost their lives along with the events of 9/11 as the ballet tells a story through a beautiful performance.”

Ron Jones, Artistic Director of the Columbia County Ballet, stated, "It is our honor to share this memorial event in honoring the 20th anniversary of 9/11 with the Columbia County Commissioners.  We chose, over 35 years ago, to establish our ballet school and company in this county for the same reason we chose to move our family here. The values of the people of Columbia County, and of the leaders they elect, reflect what is most important to us.  It is a privilege to be a part of this community and to celebrate our freedom together."

“FREEDOM”: In light of the 20th anniversary of 9/11, “Freedom” is a tribute to America and a reminder of what we have so bravely endured as a country - the lives lost, the hurting loved ones, the victories won, and the freedoms obtained. The concept of the ballet takes us on a journey, beginning intensely with tragedy, struggle, and war. It then takes an emotional turn of remembering what we’ve been through, honoring those who have so bravely and selflessly served our country, and praying for the future of our great nation. The ballet then concludes in celebrating both the freedom we have as a country and also the spiritual freedom we have received in Jesus Christ. The take away from this heart-felt ballet is that we would all remember our nation’s history and the amazing principles America was founded upon. We must never forget or take for granted that freedom is never free. And we must never stop praying for the future of our country, that God would mercifully continue to shed His grace on the land that we so dearly love.  “Freedom” was choreographed by Michael and Olivia Viator.
