THOMSON-MCDUFFIE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Thomson-McDuffie Chamber Celebrates Record Breaking Membership Event

Celebration

Thomson-McDuffie Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Aug. 3.

The Thomson-McDuffie Chamber of Commerce recently held a membership event that propelled the organization to a whole new level.

With the help of a consulting company, Your Chamber Connection, the Chamber formed a campaign to help recruit new members.  This event brought four generations of people together in one room to learn more about the Chamber and its role in economic development, workforce training and advocacy.  “It was truly an incredible sight to see so many people coming together to help grow their Chamber,” said Debbie Jones, Executive Director of the Thomson-McDuffie Chamber. “This was not your traditional membership recruitment program where you sat around and cold-called businesses.  Instead, volunteers only called people they do business with, people with whom they have a personal relationship.  It was that simple.”

As volunteers entered the Thomson Depot Tuesday and Wednesday for their calling shift, they were greeted by “Your Chamber Connection’s”, Jimmy Cusano, in a crazy bright colored zoot suit.  Music is playing, people were laughing and the excitement was infectious.  Jimmy was able to help the volunteers understand why they were calling businesses, asking them to join, while making this event entertaining and fun.

A lot of planning took place before this event, and the work began in late June 2021. The Chamber recruited five chair people to form their teams.  Those chairs are as follows; Andy Knox Jr. (Watson & Knox Inc.), Bill Hopkins (Coldwell Banker), Brittney Dyson (Suntrust now Truist Bank), Julie Langham (Augusta Technical College), and Kerry Bridges (Georgia Power).  The level of competitiveness between these teams to see who could bring in the most members was at an all-time high.  In the end, Kerry Bridges’ team brought in the most members with a close second by Andy Knox Jr.’s team.

The membership event wrapped up on Thursday afternoon with a celebration party where Jimmy shared the results of our efforts.  On average, the Thomson-McDuffie Chamber would recruit 25-30 members annually.  We are proud to announce 157 new members and upgraded members joined the Chamber, and we did it in just THREE days!  Hats off to the awesome volunteers in this community!
