County of Burke issued the following announcement on July 13.
The State Route (SR) 56 detour for Mill Creek bridge construction must last one more week between Waynesboro and Midville.
United Infrastructure Group plans a Friday, July 23 reopening for the location six miles northeast of Midville. Until then, the signed detour using SR 305 and SR 24 to get back to SR 56 remains in place.
This infrastructure project is upgrading an out-of-date structure built in 1926 and widened in 1960. Thirty percent of daily vehicles are large trucks, making this a strategic Burke County freight and logistics enhancement.
