SAVANNAH CHATHAM COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM: Savannah Early College Student Named a Horatio Alger State Scholar

Savannah Chatham County Public School System issued the following announcement on May 31. 

A rising senior at Savannah Early College has been named a Horatio Alger State Scholar.  This designation means SCCPSS student James Thompson will receive a $10,000 scholarship to be used in pursuit of a bachelors degree.  He will also have access to the full range of Horatio Alger Association support services which include:

Academic Support â€“ Financial Aid Counseling, College Selection Advising, and Online College Success Seminars

Personal & Wellness Support â€“ Scholar Monitoring, Support and Referral Services, Networking and Resource Sharing, and Wellness Resources

Professional Support â€“ Career Resources and Online Career Success Seminars

As one of the nation’s largest need-based college scholarship programs in the country, the Horatio Alger Scholarship Programs specifically assist high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. While many programs are directed primarily to recognizing academic achievement or leadership potential, the Horatio Alger Association seeks students who have exhibited determination, integrity, and perseverance in overcoming adversity, as well as have critical financial need.
