There were 88 African American students enrolled at Lincoln County Middle School in the 2024-25 school year, a 7.3% increase from the prior year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.
Enrollment data show the school had a total of 285 students for 2024-25. African American students made up 31% of the overall student population, ranking as the school’s second-largest demographic group.
The middle school is part of the Lincoln County School District, which is headquartered in Lincolnton.
Lincoln County Elementary School had the largest number of African American students in the district for 2024-25, with 138 students reported.
Statewide, Georgia’s public school system had more than 1.7 million students enrolled, according to the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report. Elementary grades had the highest enrollment at 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by middle school at 388,733 (22.7%), and high school with 539,092 (31.4%).
Chronic absenteeism continues to be a persistent issue for Georgia schools in the years following the pandemic. In 2024, 20.7% of the state’s students missed at least 10% of school days, based on the Georgia Department of Education’s reporting. The state has implemented a new initiative that features a real-time attendance dashboard, public awareness campaigns, and targeted help for districts most in need in an effort to improve daily attendance rates.
Georgia lawmakers passed legislation in 2025 updating school attendance laws, prohibiting expulsions solely for absenteeism. The law also implements new data reporting requirements and aligns with programs aiding students in earning their diplomas through alternative options.
By 2026, Georgia reached a statewide average student-to-teacher ratio of about 14:1, outpacing the national average ratio of 15:1.
