Jenkins County Middle School reported having 10 multiracial students enrolled for the 2024-25 school year, an unchanged figure from the prior year, data from the Georgia Department of Education show.
The school’s total enrollment reached 261 students during 2024-25. Multiracial students comprised just 4% of the school’s population, making them the smallest represented demographic.
This middle school is part of Jenkins County School District, which is administered from its main office in Millen.
Of Jenkins County School District’s three schools, Jenkins County Elementary School recorded the largest multiracial student enrollment for 2024-25 at 32 students.
Georgia’s public schools enrolled more than 1.7 million students, the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report shows. The enrollment by category was highest in elementary grades at 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by middle school at 388,733 students (22.7%), and high school at 539,092 students (31.4%).
Chronic absenteeism remains a significant challenge for Georgia schools following the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of class days in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. In response, the GaDOE began a statewide initiative featuring a live attendance dashboard, an outreach campaign, and targeted assistance for high-need areas to improve attendance rates.
In 2025, Georgia legislators updated school attendance rules to prohibit expulsion for absenteeism alone. The new law also requires more reporting and lines up with programs offering alternative diploma paths for students.
By 2026, Georgia’s public schools had an average student-teacher ratio of about 14:1, which is lower than the national rate of 15:1.
