House study committee to review medical marijuana and hemp policies in Augusta

The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Georgia’s Medical Marijuana and Hemp Policies is scheduled to hold its second meeting in Augusta. The session, chaired by State Representative Mark Newton (R-Augusta), will take place on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Augusta University’s Jaguar Student Activity Center.

The committee is tasked with reviewing Georgia’s existing laws and policies related to medical marijuana and other cannabis-derived drugs and hemp products. Its work includes compiling a report with specific findings or legislative recommendations aimed at ensuring patient and consumer safety as well as regulatory clarity for physicians and distributors of these products.

“Members of the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Georgia’s Medical Marijuana and Hemp Policies” are expected to participate in the meeting.

Jon G. Burns, a Republican who was elected to the Georgia State House in 2005 representing the state’s 159th House District, is among those involved in legislative matters within the state.

The meeting will be held at Augusta University – Jaguar Student Activity Center (JSAC), Coffee House (2nd floor), located at 2500 Walton Wy., Augusta, GA 30904. Additional information about the study committee and access to a live stream of the event are available online.
