The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Georgia’s Medical Marijuana and Hemp Policies is set to hold its third meeting on September 25, 2025, at Mercer University in Macon. The committee is chaired by State Representative Mark Newton (R-Augusta).
The purpose of the committee is to review Georgia’s existing laws and policies regarding medical marijuana, cannabis-derived drugs, and hemp products. The group will produce a report with findings or legislative recommendations aimed at ensuring patient safety, consumer protection, regulatory clarity for physicians, and guidelines for distributors of cannabis-related products.
According to the announcement, “The Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Georgia’s Medical Marijuana and Hemp Policies will study and evaluate Georgia’s current laws, policies and procedures surrounding medical marijuana and other cannabis-derived drugs and hemp products. The committee will compile a report of specific findings or legislative recommendations to ensure the safety of patients and consumers, as well as regulatory clarity for physicians and for distributors of cannabis-derived and hemp products.”
This session will primarily focus on information related to the medical cannabis segment.
Burns, a Republican who was elected in 2005 to represent Georgia’s 159th House District after Ray Holland stepped down, continues his legislative work alongside colleagues addressing issues such as these.
The meeting will take place at 10 a.m. in the President’s Dining Room at Mercer University. Information about the study committee and access to the live stream can be found online.
