Stallings Island Middle School had 58 Hispanic students enrolled for the 2024-25 school year, an increase of 23.4% compared to the prior year, as reported by the Georgia Department of Education.

The total student population at Stallings Island Middle School stood at 725 for 2024-25. Hispanic students accounted for 8% of that total, making them the second smallest ethnic group represented at the school.

This school is part of Columbia County Public Schools, whose central office is based in Evans.

Of the 30 schools in the Columbia County district, Grovetown High School enrolled the most Hispanic students during the 2024-25 school year, totaling 374 students.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, Georgia public schools’ racial and ethnic makeup breaks down to about 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.

Chronic absenteeism continues to present a challenge in Georgia’s schools following the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, data from the Georgia Department of Education show. To address the issue, GaDOE has introduced a statewide initiative that features a live attendance dashboard, outreach efforts to raise awareness, and targeted assistance for high-need school districts to promote better attendance.

In 2025, state lawmakers in Georgia approved an amended school attendance law that prohibits expulsion solely due to absenteeism. This statute comes with added reporting requirements and supports pathways for students to complete their diplomas by alternative means.

By 2026, Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio stood at about 14:1, which is more favorable than the U.S. average of 15:1.
