Grovetown Middle School sees 21 Asian students enrolled for 2024-25

During the 2024-25 school year, Grovetown Middle School enrolled 21 Asian students—a 4.5% decrease compared to the prior year, based on Georgia Department of Education reports.

Total enrollment at Grovetown Middle School stood at 1,060 students in 2024-25, with Asian students comprising 2% of the population—the smallest proportion among all groups at the school.

The campus operates under Columbia County Public Schools, headquartered in Evans.

Out of 30 district schools, Lakeside High School recorded the largest Asian student enrollment for 2024-25, with 218 students.

Data from the National Center for Education Statistics reveals Georgia’s public school population by race and ethnicity: 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.

Chronic absenteeism remains a serious concern across Georgia schools following the pandemic, as 20.7% of students in 2024 missed at least 10% of classes, per the Georgia Department of Education. In response, the agency started several statewide efforts that include an attendance dashboard, public awareness work, and targeted supports to encourage better attendance in high-need districts.

Legislation approved by state lawmakers updated attendance regulations in 2025, prohibiting expulsion solely for non-attendance, requiring new reporting standards, and providing for programs letting students complete diplomas by alternative routes.

Georgia reported an average class size of about 14 students per teacher as of 2026, surpassing the national ratio of 15 students per teacher, according to Public School Review.
