GREENBRIER HIGH SCHOOL: Meningococcal Vaccination Information

GREENBRIER HIGH SCHOOL: Meningococcal Vaccination Information
0Comments

Greenbrier High School issued the following announcement on Feb. 22.

GBHS Parent or Guardian:

Is your teen 16 years old or turning 16 before the start of  2022-2023 school year, August 4 2022?  If so,  they  will  need proof of a second meningococcal  vaccination  (MCV4) before being allowed to attend school, August 4 2022. The student must be 16 years old to receive the second MCV4 vaccination.

If your student turns 16 years old on or after the first day of school, August 4 2022,  the MCV4 booster will be required within 30 calendar days after their 16th birthday to continue school enrollment.

If your teen is 16 years old, it is strongly recommended getting the vaccination  as soon as possible to avoid the summer rush. Getting the MCV4 now will not only help protect your child against the ongoing threat of meningitis. Meningococcal disease is a serious bacterial illness that affects the brain and the spinal cord. Meningitis can cause shock, coma and death within hours of the first symptoms. To help protect your children and others from meningitis, Georgia law requires students to be vaccinated against this disease, unless the child has an exemption.

If you have questions, please contact your healthcare provider, the Public Health Department (706-868-3330)  or your school nurse.

Thank you!
