As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at East Central Georgia News have submitted a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., for specific records from the Warren County Election Department.

The information sought pertains to the methods being used by the department to count votes in the upcoming election. In particular, if manual counting is being employed, we have asked for an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

Our role as a media organization involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await a response from the Warren County Election Department and will continue our efforts to ensure transparency in local government affairs.
