FOIA Request to Jenkins County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

We at East Central Georgia News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have formally requested records under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., from the Jenkins County Election Department. The request was made with the intention of obtaining a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election.

The specifics of our request include candidate’s first, middle, and last names, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office, and party affiliation. We have also asked for contact information for each candidate such as their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
