A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Glascock County Election Department on February 5, 2025. The request, made by East Central Georgia News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.

The records requested under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., include full names of the candidates – first, middle and last names – along with the office they are vying for and its jurisdiction. In addition, party affiliation of each candidate was also asked for.

In an effort to provide complete transparency and facilitate communication between the public and their potential representatives, East Central Georgia News also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, we at East Central Georgia News believe access to such public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also sought a fee waiver as a media professional.

We eagerly await a response from the Glascock County Election Department so that we can continue our mission of informing our readers about important local government matters.
