FOIA Request to Columbia County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

As a dedicated news organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at East Central Georgia News have sent a request for records under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. The request was made in pursuit of information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.

The specific details requested include the first, middle, and last names of each candidate, the office they are running for, and their party affiliation. We also asked for information regarding the jurisdiction of each office.

In addition to these details, we sought contact information for each candidate including their address, phone number, and email address.

We believe that access to public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As such, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
