City of Augusta issued the following announcement on Apr. 27.

Augusta Animal Services Department is temporarily closing its animal shelter on May 6, 2022, for in-house kennel staff to participate in a one-day professional development training event with the Animal Control & Care Academy (ACCA). The ACCA is an acclaimed training institute for Animal Control Workers in providing courses to help them enhance their skills to serve citizens and protect animals.  

The shelter will be closed to the public for adoptions and animal drop-offs. However, Animal Control Officers will continue their normal schedules and responding to complaints related to animal control.
