Augusta Preparatory Day School issued the following announcement on May 3.

Augusta Preparatory Day School is proud to announce the second recipient of the W. Rodger Giles scholarship, Heritage Academy 8th grader Caileigh Pittman. This full-tuition, merit-based scholarship is awarded annually to incoming freshmen from Heritage Academy and will cover the students’ high school education.

The partnership between Heritage Academy and Augusta Prep was made possible by a generous gift from the estate of the late, local philanthropist and businessman, W. Rodger Giles, who was passionate about the betterment of children and childhood education. In 2021, Elijah McFadgen became the first recipient of the scholarship.

Caileigh will enter Augusta Prep, ranked by Niche.com as one of the state’s top private schools, in August at the start of the 2022-2023 school year. In Georgia, Augusta Prep is ranked No. 14 out of 176 schools in the Best College Prep Private Schools category, ranked No. 15 (out of 154 schools) in Best Private K-12 Schools, ranked No. 16 (out of 182 schools) in Best Private High Schools and ranked No. 17 (out of 256 schools) in Best High Schools for STEM in Georgia.

Augusta Prep is also ranked No. 1 as the Best Private K-12 School in the Augusta area by Niche.com. Augusta Prep is ranked No. 1 as the Best Private High School in Augusta. Augusta Prep earned another No. 1 ranking as Best College Prep Private School in Augusta. Augusta Prep also received a No. 1 ranking as Best High School for STEM in the Augusta area and No. 1 Best High School for STEM in Columbia County.

“I think the academics will be challenging, but it will help prepare me for the future,” said Caileigh, who plans to be a zoologist.

Caileigh’s father, Stephen, added: “I’m very grateful to Augusta Prep for this opportunity. For Caileigh, Heritage has laid a great foundation for her academically, spiritually, emotionally. Augusta Prep will challenge her academically and help her to grow and thrive. I’m really impressed and encouraged by the community that exists there. I’m excited for her to have opportunities in and out of the classroom.”
