The Augusta, Georgia Government announced on April 2 that many city offices will be closed on Friday, April 3, in observance of Good Friday. The announcement includes changes to the operating hours of several key services across the city.

The closure affects the Augusta Municipal Building and all Augusta Utilities offices, which will reopen on Monday, April 6. Residents with non-billing emergencies related to utilities are advised to call 706-842-3060 during the closure period. Parks and Recreation administrative offices, community centers, athletic offices, rental offices, and the Augusta Aquatic Center will also be closed on April 3. However, public parks and outdoor recreational facilities such as cemeteries, playgrounds, basketball courts, and tennis courts will remain open from dawn to dusk.

Essential services like Augusta Transit fixed routes—including ADA and rural transit—will operate as usual on April 3. The Augusta Landfill will remain open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day and from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday; normal operations resume after the holiday weekend for all departments.

According to the official website, Augusta is Georgia’s second oldest and second largest city with nine neighborhoods listed on the National Register of Historic Places along with historic monuments and cemeteries throughout its area. The city preserves important structures such as President Woodrow Wilson’s boyhood home and the Ezekiel Harris House built in 1797 according to its official website.

Augusta operates under a consolidated government led by a mayor and ten commissioners according to its official website. It developed the Augusta Canal in 1847—establishing itself as one of the world’s major inland cotton markets—and forms part of the Central Savannah River Area spanning counties in both Georgia and South Carolina according to its official website.
