Congressman Rick W. Allen from Georgia and Congresswoman Marie Gluesenkamp Perez from Washington state have introduced a new bipartisan legislation called the Promote Resilient Connectivity to Taiwan Act. The bill aims to enhance the security and resilience of Taiwan's communication networks by directing the National Telecommunication and Information Administration (NTIA) to assess technologies that can achieve this goal.

In a statement, Rep. Allen emphasized the importance of the initiative in response to threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). He stated, "The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) poses a significant economic and military security threat. The CCP’s attacks on the communications networks of Taiwan, including reports of Chinese ships cutting the island’s internet cables, cannot be met with complacency."

Furthermore, Rep. Allen expressed his pride in collaborating with Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez on this legislation, highlighting its significance for both Taiwan and the United States in combating the CCP's actions. He said, “I am proud to partner with Representative Gluesenkamp Perez in introducing H.R. 7578 to ensure the integrity of Taiwan’s critical networks, allowing for reliable and secure communication. This is not only about the national security of Taiwan, but also that of the United States as we continue to combat the CCP’s rogue regime.”

Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez echoed the sentiment of safeguarding allies under threat and emphasized the importance of the bipartisan effort. She stated, “It’s our nation’s duty to help allies and partners defend themselves when their democracies are under threat. Not only is it the right thing to do, but it’s also in our own national security and economic interests.” She further explained the purpose of the legislation, saying, “Our bipartisan legislation will help ensure Taiwan has more durable and secure communications, so they can remain connected with the world in the event of attacks on their infrastructure.”

The Promote Resilient Connectivity to Taiwan Act reflects a commitment to strengthening Taiwan's communication networks in the face of evolving security challenges, aiming to ensure reliable and secure connections for the country in times of need.
